It turns out Apple’s iPhone X display could have a few of the same issues as Google’s -pixel 2 XL.
The apple iphone X could be impacted by “burn-in” along with other “visual changes” that commonly influence smartphones with OLED displays, based on a new Apple support document.
Burn-in happens when parts of an image stick to the screen after you’ve navigated far from it. The issue commonly happens when the high-contrast image is on the screen for a long period of time and, most recently, continues to be causing a huge headache for Search engines as some Pixel 2 XL proprietors have reported burn-in issues right after just a few days or weeks with all the phone.
Now, Apple will be acknowledging that burn-in and other “visual changes” could happen to the iPhone X’s “Super Retina” OLED display too.

If you take a look at an OLED display off-angle, you might notice slight shifts within color and hue. This is a feature of OLED and is normal behaviour. With extended long-term use, OLED displays can also show slight visible changes. This is also expected behaviour and can include âimage persistenceâ or âburn-in,â in which the display shows a faint remnant of an image even after a new picture appears on the screen. This can happen in more extreme cases such as once the same high contrast image will be continuously displayed for prolonged durations. Weâve engineered the Super Retina display to be the best in the industry within reducing the effects of OLED “burn-in. “
Now, this isn’t entirely unexpected. Since Mashable’s Senior Tech Correspondent Raymond Wong previously pointed out, OLED shows are simply more susceptible to certain problems, like burn-in and discoloration (though the problems seem to be more prevalent on shows from certain suppliers). Â
However, the fact that Apple is preparing apple iphone X owners for issues in advance suggests that it could be more of a wide-spread concern, even though the company says it can engineered the display to minimize the problem.
Apple says it desires these type of issues to continue mainly in “extreme cases” whenever “the same high contrast picture is continuously displayed for extented periods of time. ” So , iPhone By owners may want to take note and safeguard against potential burn-in by using iOS’ automatic brightness settings and becoming extra careful of what’s in the screen when the brightness is converted all the way up.
