China's Didi Chuxing plans charging network to cover millions of EVs

Didi Chuxing, which famously defeated Above all in China and conquered the huge domestic market, is going to build an expansive charging system to support millions of electric cars.

The ride-hailing company has 21 million drivers, out of which 260, 000 are driving electrics. This is a mindbending one quarter share from the world’s entire two million EVs (electric vehicles) on the road â€? plus Didi said it expects the EV fleet to hit one mil in 2020.

On Thurs, Didi pledged that its prepared charging network would be large sufficient to also support other EVs owned by members of the public.

It will start building together with partnerships along with other companies. Didi recently started dealing with Swedish firm NEVS (National Electrical Vehicle Sweden), which acquired auto company Saab’s assets in 2012.

NEVS has been focusing on constructing electric cars for the Chinese marketplace, and in June this year resurrected the Saab with electric guts, manufactured in China.

Didi hasn’t said just how broad its network will be, yet it’s safe to assume that preliminary works will start in major towns like Shanghai and Beijing, each of which have already jumped headlong directly into EV adoption.

In Sept, the Chinese government said it is going to stop bringing gasoline cars to the country â€? the world’s greatest car market.

Tesla furthermore recently secured plans to build a vehicle factory in Shanghai, where this already operates the world’s biggest Tesla super charging facility, capable to support 50 Teslas charging concurrently.
