Elon Musk calls out reporters on Tesla earnings call

Elon Musk is not really happy with the press.

Musk was giving his opening comments during Tesla’s third quarter profits call on Wednesday, and he had a clear message to some of the journalists hearing remotely on the line: He’s pissed away from at their work.

The Tesla CEO’s voice was significantly strained when he brought up mass media coverage of the automaker’s October bulk firings, which reportedly came right after performance reviews.

Musk failed to hold back when he mentioned the particular media. “These are ridiculous, inch he said, referring to the way several unnamed outlets covered the story. “Any journalist [who wrote these articles] should be ashamed of on their own for lacking journalistic integrity. “

He went on to claim that Tesla needs to have higher standards for its workers than traditional automakers or it can “die, ” and said that, unlike much of the coverage, only 300 employees â€? 2 percent from the company’s workforce â€? were removed due to performance standards.

The high-profile firings led to a lawsuit through a former employee, who claimed that will Tesla didn’t give proper caution under California state law. Musk didn’t address the lawsuit throughout the call.

“These are ridiculous”

He did continue to dress down the particular press, however. He said that a lot of the coverage didn’t put Tesla’s position as an upstart automaker in to proper context, and those reports emerged specifically from “journalists and publishers with low integrity. “

Musk’s comments come at a harrowing period for the press, when President Jesse Trump routinely dismisses negative insurance as “fake news. ” Elon Musk might have had a fair stage about unfair coverage from particular outlets, but without naming brands, he came uncomfortably close to the develop of Twitter’s most notorious consumer, the president.

That had been especially evident with Musk’s 1 final word on the topic. “Shame, ” he said, and let the information linger on the line before changing the subject.
