Esports pros in the Finnish military are likely to start getting the same privileges that will traditional sports athletes do, the Finnish Esports Federation announced today.

In Finland, males are required to your military service for roughly 6 months or a year before they’re 30 years old, according to Finnish news web site Yle.

Top-level athletes get special privileges, including extra time away and unique training. Those exact same privileges are going to be given to esports sports athletes now, too, with the help of the Finnish Esports Federation.

Reddit consumer Ulmali, who lives in Finland, described that many Finnish men complete their particular mandatory service when they are 18 or 19 years old, which can interfere with esports ambitions in the same way that it would certainly with traditional sports.

Most esports players who reach top-level pro status do so when these kinds of are around that age, and halting for even six months can seriously impact aspiring Finnish players. Much like traditional sports athletes, esports athletes have to keep practicing and competing 365 days a year or else they’ll fall behind their particular peers and lose out on big possibilities.

Athletes in the Finnish army attend a specific sports school, Yle reported, which allows people to continue working out for their respective sport and gives individuals extra time off for practicing plus competing.

In order to find out who is deserving of this special standing in esports, the Finnish army is relying on the Finnish Esports Federation for help.

The alternative â€? skipping military services in Finland â€? isn’t really a choice unless you’re willing to spend more than six months in jail.
