Fitbit went all-in on the new Ionic smartwatch this year. This released the gadget in Oct with only a few apps to the name â€? then proceeded in order to leave the brand new OS alone for nearly two months without a software update.

The period of inactivity ends Wednesday. The wearable company just introduced the first update for the Ionic’s Fitbit OS, complete with new apps, time clock faces, and more.

Most from the apps are activity-focused, as is suitable for a gadget now being charged in an aggressive ad campaign as a smartwatch built specifically for fitness. But there are several other big lifestyle names becoming a member of the Fitbit ecosystem, too.

Big names available immediately consist of Phillips Hue, Yelp, Flipboard, plus The New York Times. Those tend to be not exactly the sexiest or most useful titles in the app game, but many a lot more are expected by the end of the year, which includes Uber, Clue, Nest, TripAdvisor, plus United Airlines. Even more additions are required in January such as Lyft plus Walgreens.

International customers can gain access to on-device offline music loading via Deezer, but they’ll need to wait until next year.

Some new programs from Fitbit’s in-house R& D team will sign up for the third-party offerings, giving customers some gamified activity programs to assist push engagement. The only program offered at launch will be a “Pet” clock encounter that gives users a virtual friend to care for with their step accomplishments, while other apps like a Feeling Log, sport-specific tennis support, and much more activity incentive games are expected prior to the end of the year.

Fitbit Pay is also benefiting from improvements, adding device credit/debit choice and more banks to its system. More territories and banks are required to be included next year.

The software update also brings nearly 30 free apps and more compared to 80 watch faces to the Application Gallery from smaller developers, that will finally give Ionic owners some thing to do on their wrists.

The new apps won’t immediately burial container the Ionic into Apple View territory, what with its two-year within the and pedigree, but it’s a good start â€? if it’s not in its final stages after the launch to make a dent, which is. 743e 6d9e%2fthumb%2f00001
