Composer and famed playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda explained Friday early morning what drove him to say that will President Trump would be âgoing straight to hell.â
Miranda, the particular creator and original star from the Broadway musical âHamilton,â drew nationwide headlines with the condemnation, which emerged after Trump began attacking San Juan Mayor Carmen YulÃn Jones as her city was struggling with Hurricane Maria.
Miranda has family members in Puerto Rico and has used a prominent role in increasing disaster relief money for the tropical isle after Maria hit last 30 days. The musician was promoting their new song, âAlmost Like Praying,â when the hosting companies of âCBS This Morningâ asked him regarding his highly publicized tweet.
âItâs unprecedented language from me, but itâs unprecedented to have the president of the United States attack the victims of a natural disaster,â Miranda said. âIâve never seen that before, so those were the only words I had to express my feelings on that. When have we ever seen that?â
The tweet gained a lot of attention and was showcased on the cover of the New York Every day News, which serves Trump plus Mirandaâs home city.
Miranda suggested that the only reason this particular politically charged tweet made information is because the rest of his feed is quite innocuous: dad jokes, videos associated with dogs and pictures of his kid playing with trains.
âI do my best to be the silver lining in the world because, you know, the world is how it is,â he stated.
But the Broadway star had been outraged by Trumpâs response to substantial storm that killed at least 34 people and devastated Puerto Vasto. It was the worst hurricane hitting the tropical island in almost a century.
The presidentâs visit to Puerto Rico was roundly criticized. This individual suggested that Hurricane Maria had not been âa real catastrophe like Katrinaâ and tossed rolls associated with paper towels into a crowd during 1 event. Nevertheless, Trump praised their own visit to the island and disparaged the news media for the negative insurance.
A great day time in Puerto Rico yesterday. Although some of the news coverage is False, most showed great warmth plus friendship.

But what appears to have head out Miranda was Trumpâs tweet chastising Cruz, who had criticized federal government response efforts.
âWe are dying here, and I cannot fathom the thought that the greatest nation in the world cannot figure out logistics for a small island of 100 miles by 35 miles long,â Cruz stated at a press conference on September. 29. âSo mayday, we are in trouble.â
The next morning, Trump tweeted, âThe Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.â
Miranda told the âTodayâ show that he wishes he could declare his tweet saying Trump should go to hell was impulsive â? but that it was not.
âThat was not an impulsive tweet. Those were the only words I had left, and Iâm a guy who puts words together for a living,â this individual said. âTheyâre all I had available to me to express my reaction to his attack on the people of Puerto Rico.â
Shortly after Trump had been elected, he attacked Mirandaâs âHamiltonâ in a series of tweets. Speaking in the stage, cast members had faced then-Vice President-elect Mike Pence following a show, urging him to regard the countryâs diversity.
âThe Theater must always be a safe and special place,â Trump tweeted. âThe cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!â
The proceeds from âAlmost Like Prayingâ should go to the Hispanic Federationâs Unidos Tragedy Relief Fund, which is dedicated to supplying Puerto Rico with critical items.
