'Real Russia scandal' is Clinton camp's ties to controversial dossier

President Trump, the White Home and Fox News are requisitioning upon a Washington Post review that the Hillary Clinton campaign plus Democratic National Committee helped purchase the controversial dossier that produced salacious but unverified claims regarding his ties to Russia.

“The real Russia scandal?” White House press secretary Dorothy Sanders tweeted on Tuesday night time, shortly after the Post’s story has been published online. “Clinton campaign paid for the fake Russia dossier, then lied about it & covered it up.”

The White Home and Trump have long wanted to deflect attention away from research by both a Proper rights Department special counsel and several congressional committees into whether or not Trump campaign associates colluded along with Russia to influence the 2016 election.

On Wednesday morning, Trump also reacted to the Post’s review, relaying an apparent quote from the Fox News segment about the Post’s report on Wednesday morning. “The victim here is the President,” Trump shared.

According to the Post, Marc Electronic. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Blend GPS, a Washington firm, within April 2016 to produce the file.

The document was prepared by Captain christopher Steele, a former British intelligence official, who had been looking into the Trump campaign’s ties to the Kremlin for Blend on behalf of an unknown Republican client throughout the GOP primary, the Post mentioned. The Clinton campaign and DNC reportedly paid for Fusion GPS’s analysis of Trump through the end associated with October 2016.

Brian Fallon, an ex spokesman for the Clinton campaign, informed the newspaper he was unacquainted with the research that was being conducted but would have supported it.

“The first I learned of Christopher Steele or saw any dossier was after the election,” Fallon said. “But if I had gotten handed it last fall, I would have had no problem passing it along and urging reporters to look into it. Opposition research happens on every campaign, and here you had probably the most shadowy guy ever running for president, and the FBI certainly has seen fit to look into it. I probably would have volunteered to go to Europe myself to try and verify if it would have helped get more of this out there before the election.”

A spokeswoman for your DNC said that the committee’s brand new leadership, including chairman Tom Perez, were likewise unaware Elias got retained Fusion to produce the file.

Last week, a pair of Fusion professionals met privately with the House Cleverness Committee probing Russian interference within the 2016 U. S. presidential selection, but refused to answer the questions. According to Bloomberg News, Blend partners Peter Fritsch and Jones Catan invoked their Fifth Change rights against self-incrimination during their program with the House panel.

That review led Trump to wonder out loud who paid for the dossier.

“Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th,” Trump tweeted on Thursday. “Who paid for it, Russia, the FBI or the Dems (or all)?”

In February, the Post documented that the FBI â€? which got previously hired Steele to research problem in professional soccer â€? got reached an agreement shortly before the selection to pay him to continue his focus on Trump. But the bureau did not spend Steele after the dossier leaked on the internet shortly before Trump’s inauguration.

The dossier, which was published by Buzzfeed on Jan. 10, contained accusations that Trump’s associates colluded with all the Kremlin and claimed that Russians held compromising material on Trump. After it was published, Trump strenuously denied the allegations, calling all of them “fake news.”
