Sony turns robot dog into AI assistant

That robotic canine you wanted as a kid has returned. And sadly, it’s just as costly.

Sony had announced that right after more than a decade since retiring its robotic dog product, the Aibo is going to be coming back for real.

The new Aibo has additionally learnt some new tricks. The AI capability will allow it to understand and recognise people’s faces, please remember and avoid obstacles in a room.

It’ll also be voice-capable and impair connected, being able to record photos plus save them online. For example , stating “take a picture” will result in the Aibo to take a shot plus send it to the cloud, obtainable later from a companion app.  

“Aibo’s AI learns through interactions with owners and builds up an unique personality over time, ” states Sony on its website. “With its owner’s permission, Aibo may collect data from these interactions plus… become even more clever. “

But with a hefty price tag of $1, 740 (Â¥198, 000), Sony’s definitely betting that people are willing to shell out for your nostalgia of the device.

You’ve also got to pay $21 (Â¥2, 500) per month for Aibo’s impair subscription service, which includes backup plus access to the Aibo app.

The Aibo will also have a bone â€? a smart one, normally â€? called the Aibone (I understand right. ) That’ll set you back an additional $22 (Â¥2980).

But naturally , you’re not really paying for a pet, yet an AI device.

The Aibo’s battery life reportedly lasts about two hours, and takes 3 hours to recharge.

The new Aibo is usually ready for pre-order â€? but only when you’re in Japan, and will begin shipping on Jan. 11.

If you’re not in Japan, even though, you’ll just have to make do with a genuine dog for now.
