Elon Musk introduced Tesla would provide aid for Puerto Rico as the island recovers through Hurricane Maria. Now we’ve noticed the how the company’s renewable energy techniques are being implemented.

The industry¡¯s Twitter account shared a set of brand new photos showing off a new solar panel set up at Hospital del Niño within Guaynabo, calling it the “first of many” solar and storage space initiatives planned to bring power to people of Puerto Rico.

The photos show off rows of recently installed solar panels filling up a car parking lot and one of Tesla’s Powerpack batteries, three of which were apparently spotted earlier this month on the San Juan airport. Each Powerpack can store up to 210 kWh of power, which in this particular case will be produced by the solar power panels.

CBS News correspondent Jesse Begnaud, who is currently reporting through Puerto Rico, also tweeted away the images. He included several additional details about the power storage program.

If Begnaud’s amounts are accurate, Tesla probably additional another Powerpack to the system, together with a number of Powerwall batteries, which can shop up to 13. 5 kWh associated with power. The company reportedly sent “hundreds” of the batteries to the island in the beginning of recovery efforts, along with a group of installers to help put them in position.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Puerto Rico’s governor Ricardo Rossello publicly corresponded on Tweets after a fan’s suggestion to discuss you can actually potential role in relief initiatives. Rossello later met with Tesla VP of global infrastructure procedures Cal Lankton to continue those conversations, which likely resulted in the hospital task and the “many” others currently within the works.

These projects could be incredibly helpful for Puerto Rico â€? at press time, only 24. 4 percent of the island provides access to power. But it’s also important to remember that Tesla only appears to be creating tiny grids with the new installations, that are limited to managing the power of little closed systems, rather than larger systems. Tesla has installed power main grid systems on and Ta’u within American Samoa, but never anyplace as large as Puerto Vasto.

We reached out to Tesla for some more details about the new set up, its funding, and the others the business has planned in Puerto Vasto. We haven’t heard back, yet will update the story if and when we all do.

The company that are tasked with rebuilding Puerto Rico’s power grid at large is Whitefish Energy, which agreed to a $300 million contract with PREPA, the particular island’s power authority. That offer has been called into question due to the tiny Montana company’s alleged connections to Interior Secretary Ryan Spitze.

No matter who does the job, however , Puerto Rico needs all of the help it can to bring power returning to the people. Bringing a renewable program to a children’s hospital is a good begin.
