Toronto begins sharing traffic data with Waze, and vice versa

The city of Toronto has begun sharing its traffic information with navigation service provider Waze. Google-owned Waze will also provide access to the real-time traffic and road circumstances data back to the city, in exchange, plus both parties expect to improve navigation round the city thanks to the new collaborative work.

Waze offers turn-by-turn routing to users and drivers, obtaining up-to-the-minute traffic, weather and umschl¨¹sselung data thanks to crowdrouces user insight. It also offers a Connected Citizens System, which works with municipal governments plus transportation agencies to exchange data within arrangements like this new one along with Toronto to help expand its accessible data pool, and in turn inform town systems with real-time user reviews.

Toronto hopes that it’ll be able to be more responsive to real-time situations affecting travel times and visitors in the city thanks to the benefit of current reports â€? it also believes the app can help it inform inhabitants more effectively of planned events which includes major road closures and tests like the King Street pilot system it just launched, which becomes the major downtown road into a mainly car-free zone.

The associated with Toronto also recently entered into a with Waze parent Alphabet’s Pavement Labs to develop plans for a wise city site on Toronto’s undeveloped downtown Portlands region. In general, Toronto and its current political leadership appear eager to embrace and explore possible technological initiatives, and the Waze relationship is just the latest example.
