Trump, Frederica Wilson, and the search for proof

President Trump claims they have proof that a Democratic congresswoman is usually lying, but if his proof is usually anything like the evidence he’s guaranteed to offer for some of his some other controversial assertions, the nation will think it when â€? or when â€? it sees it.

The latest controversy follows the fatalities of four U. S. troops who were ambushed by militants during patrol in Niger. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., said Tuesday evening that Trump, in a condolence contact to the widow of Sgt. Una David Johnson, remarked that “he knew what he was getting into.” The president’s reported comments, which usually Wilson said she overheard on the speaker phone in the car along with Myeshia Johnson and the fallen soldier’s mother, were widely criticized because insensitive, leading to a Trump retort via tweet Wednesday morning: “Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!”

Since that tweet, the fallen soldier’s mother confirmed to the Washington Write-up that Wilson’s account was appropriate, telling the newspaper, “President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband.” Can we see Trump’s promised “proof”?  Asked for it shortly afterward, the particular president said, cryptically, “Let her make her statement again and then you’ll find out.” The particular White House said Wednesday mid-day that while the call was not recorded, main of staff John Kelly seemed to be on it.

But the president, whose favorite compliment is to call something “incredible,” includes a history of saying things that are, actually, that. Whether it’s accusations associated with sexual assault, the birther motion or private conversations with the F director, the president has hinted at the existence of, or even guaranteed to provide, evidence that never reached light.

The Comey ‘tapes’

After Trump fired FBI Director James Comey in May, stories began to leak regarding their conversations, including one where the president reportedly asked for a dedication pledge from Comey. Trump replied by tweeting, “James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!”

Those “tapes” grew to become a monthlong distraction, as associates of both Congress and the mass media sought clarification whether the White Home had indeed recorded conversations between president and the FBI director, who he fired over the handling from the bureau’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and The ussr. On June 9 â€? almost a month after the initial “tapes” twitter update — Trump said he’d have some thing “next week” but that everyone will be disappointed. It took until 06 22 for Trump to confirm exactly what everyone assumed by then, that simply no such tapes existed.

Charges associated with sexual misconduct

In October 2016, a number of females came forward to accuse Trump of sexual harassment and strike, following the publicizing of the leaked “Access Hollywood” tape of Trump boasting he previously touched and kissed women with no their consent. At his marketing campaign events in the wake of the accusations, the GOP nominee defended themself in a variety of ways, including the assertion that their accusers were not attractive enough intended for him to have harassed. He furthermore claimed he had proof that “the claims are preposterous, ludicrous and defy truth, common sense and logic” at a Florida rally. “We already have substantial evidence to dispute these lies, and it will be made public in an appropriate way, and at an appropriate time, very soon.”

That move was on Oct. 13, 2016, and in the year-plus since, the particular Trump camp has not released any kind of evidence disproving the claims towards him. If he has any, it might come to light as a result of a subpoena simply by one of the accusers seeking “all documents concerning any woman who asserted that Donald J. Trump touched her inappropriately.”

Birtherism plus wiretaps

Trump has also claimed to have proof that former President Barack Obama was born outside the United States and wiretapped him during the 2016 presidential marketing campaign.

In 2011, Trump claimed upon camera that he had sent researchers to Hawaii to look at the circumstances associated with Obama’s birth, “and they cannot believe what they’re finding.” Perhaps since the investigators couldn’t believe it, Trump never disclosed what it was these people supposedly found. The following year he or she tweeted that “an ‘extremely credible source’ has called my office and told me that @BarackObama‘s birth certificate is a fraud.” He in no way provided this supposedly “credible” details, but his leadership in the birther movement helped his popularity along with portions of the Republican base that will help fuel his successful tell you the GOP primaries.

On September. 16, 2016, five and a half yrs after Obama released the “long form” birth certificate that proved he previously been born in Hawaii, Trump said, without apology, that he approved that “President Barack Obama was born in the United States.”

Once he took the particular White House, Trump claimed which he had “just found out” Obama had purchased his campaign to be wiretapped. Trump has supported that assertion simply by citing the incidental assortment of calls from another investigations. Other people have said that the fact that former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort had been wiretapped vindicates the president, yet that investigation began in 2014, well before Trump had announced their intention to run for president plus Manafort had joined the group. After six months of congressional queries and questions from the press containing no evidence to support the claim, the particular Justice Department reported in Sept that it couldn’t find any proof that Trump Tower had been wiretapped.
