President Trump continues to praise his administrationâs reaction to the humanitarian crisis in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico â? and write off his critics as ungrateful.
âWe have done a great job with the almost impossible situation in Puerto Rico,â Trump wrote in a series of twitter posts early Sunday. âOutside of the Fake News or politically motivated ingrates, people are now starting to recognize the amazing work that has been done by FEMA and our great Military. All buildings now inspected for safety.â
Trump added: âThank you to the Governor of P.R. and to all of those who are working so closely with our First Responders. Fantastic job!â

The tweets came a day after the chief executive attacked San Juan Mayor Carmen YulÃn Cruz over what he or she implied was insufficient gratitude for that federal help in the wake associated with Hurricane Maria, which tore over the U. S. island territory upon Sept. 20, killing at least 16 people and leaving millions with no power, food and water.
âThe Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump,â Trump wrote on Twitter early Sunday. âSuch poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help.â

Itâs not clear what, exactly, caused Trump to lash out against Johnson. During a CNN interview the day just before, Cruz was asked to respond to acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Dukeâs assertion that the White Houseâs response to the storm was a âgood-news storyâ because of the âlimited number of deaths that have taken place in such a devastating hurricane.â
âWell, maybe from where sheâs standing itâs a good-news story,â Cruz said. âWhen youâre drinking from a creek, itâs not a good-news story. When you donât have food for a baby, itâs not a good-news story. When you have to pull people down from their buildings â Iâm sorry, but that really upsets and frustrates me. I would ask her to come down here and visit the towns and then make a statement like that, which frankly is an irresponsible statement.â

âDammit, this is not a good-news story, this is a people-are-dying story,â a good emotional Cruz continued. âThis is a life-or-death story. This is âthereâs a truckload of stuff that cannot be taken to peopleâ story. This is a story of devastation that continues to worsen because people are not getting food or water. If I could scream it a lot more louder: It is not a good-news story when people are dying when they donât have dialysis, when their generators arenât working and their oxygen isnât providing for them.â
On NBCâs âMeet the Press,â Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was asked why Trump failed to show more âempathyâ for Cruzâs situation.
âWhen the president gets attacked, he attacks back,â Mnuchin replied. âAnd I think the mayorâs comments were unfair, given what the federal government has done.â
On ABCâs âThis Weekâ Sunday, Cruz taken care of immediately Trumpâs tweeted attack.
âThereâs only one goal, and itâs saving lives,â the girl said. âAll I did last week, or even this week, was ask for help.â
âPeople are being told to register via Internet for FEMA relief, when we donât have any Internet or very little Internet, even in the San Juan metropolitan area,â Cruz explained. âI recognize the good heart that the FEMA people have. They want to help. But they just donât have the resources, and itâs not me whoâs saying it.â
Cruz also criticized Trumpâs suggestion that will Puerto Ricoâs debt is further complicating federal relief efforts.
âLet us not talk about the debt, let us not talk about the cost of reconstruction,â the girl said. âLet us talk about saving lives.â
Trump is scheduled to see Puerto Rico on Tuesday, plus Cruz said she would have no issue meeting with him.
âIf he asks to meet with me, of course I would,â she mentioned.
