College installs facial recognition to make sure students don't get friends to sign in for them

These learners won’t be so happy after this technologies is rolled out in their college

Time to start hauling butt to class.

One college in China is using facial acknowledgement technology to keep track of students’ presence.

According to news wall plug the China Daily, more than 300 students in the Communications University associated with China now have to stand before a tablet, which will match their particular likeness with records in the university’s database.

That means no more having your friend to sign the presence sheet for you. Not unless your own friend also happens to be your dual.

The technology was developed simply by Professor Shen Hao of the college, using Chinese Internet giant Baidu’s open AI platform.

The facial recognition system is currently being folded out across six of Prof Shen’s classes.  

“The brand new system saves time and decreases the workload of students, inch Prof Shen told the Beijing News. “Out of one hundred learners, it usually only fails to recognize one student. “

But certainly, not everyone is a fan.

“Thank goodness this wasn’t applied when I was a student, ” mentioned one user on Chinese social networking website Weibo.
